Football Is Finally Here!!!
Tonight, at 7pm, my 8th ranked LSU Tigers take the field against University of Louisiana-Lafayette at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. Geaux Tigers! It marks the end of a long, bitter, sweltering summer with nothing to watch and no team to root for (I hate baseball). The real sports season has begun! I'll post each week after this one, my predictions for upcoming SEC games and noted national games as well. Although, I will say that I pick Cal over Tennessee and Florida State over Miami this weekend. My alma mater, Mississippi State got shut out against South Carolina on Thursday night 15-0. Sorry, Jamie!
But, at the end of the day, my hope is in the Bayou Bengals. LSU is a notorious slow starter and always lets lesser teams stay in the game with them, but I'm picking LSU 42-13. My overall pick for LSU is to go 10-2 and finish second in the SEC West to Auburn. My hope is that they beat the snot out of Auburn in two weeks (my son and I have tickets for that game) and win the SEC, but they have a tough road ahead of them. Anyway, Geaux Tigers!

I said it's great...to be...a Florida Gator! I said it's great...to be...a Florida Gator!
Oh man I long for the south where we have REAL football! The midwest just doesn't understand good college football. At least not this area of the midwest.

I have this horrible horrible fear that Les Miles will be for LSU the second coming of Mike Archer. After Arnsparger's fingerprint was gone and the program was fully Archer's...well...let's not relive that.
The cupboard is definitely FULL right now for the Tigers. I hope I'm wrong about Miles. Time will tell.
Now here's hoping that all the talking heads are as wrong about Auburn as they were about Cal. 35-0 with 8:31 to play in the 3rd...geez.

Also...you probably already know, but if the LSU games aren't on in your viewing area, you can pick up 870 after the sun goes down. I'll be listening tonight from East Texas.

Good luck,
Now that I live in Basketball Country, I'm missing the SEC. Roll Tide!

Thanks for stopping by, Stuart (and Kevin and Micah). Great to run into another LSU fan. LSU leads 14-3 in the second quarter. Geaux Tigers. Although, that is the first time ULL has scored on us in like, 75 years. I HATE giving up points!
By the way, I was clearly wrong about Tennessee. 35-18 over Cal. Ouch.

40-14 v. Washington State or...
45-3 v. UL-Lafayette...
Hmm.

Well, Joe, we'll know in two weeks for sure, won't we? Can't wait, bro!

Joe,
How good is Washington State? How soon did Auburn's and LSU's backups play? How much of the playbook did Auburn use? How much of the playbook did LSU use? I don't know the answers to those questions any better than you do. But I do know that you can't always go on stuff that happens in week one against the teams you're "supposed to beat."
Frankly, I shouldn't have anything against Auburn...I'm just not over the fact that they got invited to the Sugar Bowl in 89 (or was it 88) the year they finished tied. (And in case anyone is wondering...I didn't go to LSU. My dad did. But when you're an um...uh...(speaking under his breath)Baylor Bear...you tend to live vicariously through the team you always rooted for as a kid!)

Alan,
How can you pick Auburn over LSU ? What Makes Auburn better than
LSU ?
Posted by: Charles | September 05, 2006 at 04:11 PM
Great question from an Alabama fan, Charles! I honestly don't think that Auburn is better than LSU. But, it's hard to be objective in this. Even though we won the national title a couple of years ago, LSU fans are always waiting for a catastrophe to happen. I think that we're actually surprised when the team wins. Nick Saban began to change the mindset quite a bit, but the old insecurity is back with Les Miles. Actually, I could see LSU beating Auburn and then losing to Tennessee, Floriday, Alabama, or Arkansas, and Auburn running the table.
So, can LSU beat Auburn? Absolutely! Will they? That's another story. And, will they then translate that into an SEC West title? Well, the old pessimist is back. I think all LSU fans are a bit pessimistic just to protect ourselves from disaster!
But, nevertheless, Geaux Tigers!
